Brazil eVisa — apply online

• After you submit and pay, the application is verified for accuracy and sent to the relevant Brazilian authority for analysis; processing can take up to about 10 business days (many decisions arrive sooner), so it is recommended to apply at least two to three weeks before travel.
• The reviewing authority may, at its discretion, request additional or corrected documents; if so you will be notified and asked to re-upload through the online application.
• All status updates and the final decision are sent by email to the address on your application, and you should also check your spam/junk folders because messages may not land in your main inbox.
• You can track your application at any time using the online status/track-application tool on the official portal.
• Typical application statuses include Pending/In Process (still under review), On Hold / additional documents required (more information or a corrected upload is needed before deciding), Approved/Granted (the e-Visa has been issued), and Rejected/Refused (the application was denied).
• If your application is rejected you are generally informed of the reason and there is no formal appeal - you fix the issue that caused the refusal and submit a fresh application (for example correct a name mismatch, replace a blurry scan, or use a compliant photo).
• When approved, the e-Visa is delivered as a PDF by email; download it and print it - it is recommended to print and carry a copy (a spare copy is sensible) during your trip and to keep a digital copy as backup.
• The e-Visa is electronically linked to your passport and is NOT physically stamped or stickered into the passport, so the printout is your proof of authorization.
• If you lose your printed e-Visa you can reprint it from your email or by logging back into the online portal.
• You must present the printed e-Visa together with the same valid passport used in the application when boarding and on arrival - airlines check it before boarding, and travellers without a valid e-Visa can be denied boarding.
• The e-Visa application itself collects no biometrics; fingerprints are not part of the online process, though Brazilian Federal Police may collect biometric data on entry.
• On arrival, Brazilian Federal Police at immigration check your passport and e-Visa and place an entry stamp in your passport - the immigration officer makes the final decision on whether you are admitted, and holding a valid e-Visa does not by itself guarantee entry.
• Use only official designated ports of entry; the e-Visa can be used to enter Brazil by air, sea or land at recognized border points.
• When you leave Brazil you pass through immigration again and receive an exit stamp, and you must depart within your authorized period (granted stay plus any approved Federal Police extension) to avoid overstay penalties.

• Prepare a passport from the United States, Canada, or Australia that is valid for the duration of your intended stay and has at least one blank page available.
• Have a clear, glare-free colour scan of your passport biographical (photo) data page, fully visible within the frame with no edges cut off and the text and machine-readable zone at the bottom fully legible.
• Provide a recent, ICAO-compliant passport-style digital colour photograph taken within the last six months against a plain white background.
• The photo should measure 3.5 x 4.5 cm (approximately 413 x 531 pixels), show your full face centred and looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression and no smile, hair tied back with ears visible, shoulders inside the frame, and no head covering or glasses; it must be in JPEG/JPG format and under 2 MB.
• Have details of your travel plans ready, such as a flight booking or travel itinerary showing your intended dates of arrival and departure.
• Have proof of accommodation in Brazil ready, such as a hotel reservation, a booking confirmation, or an invitation letter from a host.
• Be prepared to provide proof of sufficient financial means to support your stay if requested.
• Have an emergency contact and your address details in Brazil available to enter into the application.
• Use a valid email address, as your approved e-Visa will be delivered electronically and you will need it to download the document.
• Apply well in advance of travel; the official advice is to apply up to around two months before departure to allow time to complete and correct your application if needed.

Business

Supporting documents may include a letter from your employer or the host company in Brazil describing the purpose and duration of the visit, or an invitation to a conference, meeting, or trade event.

Applications for minors (children under 18)

The minor's birth certificate is generally required, together with a parental authorisation, and copies of both parents' passport biographical pages. Where the minor has a Brazilian parent, a notarised affidavit/statement of non-citizenship signed by the Brazilian parent(s) is required, declaring that the child is not a Brazilian citizen and holds no Brazilian birth certificate. Parents' names should be consistent across all documents, and documents issued outside Brazil may need to be apostilled and translated into Portuguese.

Ordinary passport holders of the United States, Canada, and Australia need an e-Visa to travel to Brazil for short visits such as tourism, business, and transit. Nationals of many other countries are visa-exempt for short stays and do not use this programme.

The e-Visa covers tourism, transit, and business meetings and events — and, for Chinese nationals, attending events and exhibitions. It does not allow paid employment, long-term study, journalistic assignments, sporting or artistic engagements, or any income-generating activity in Brazil.

For United States citizens the e-Visa is generally valid for up to 10 years, and for Canadian and Australian citizens it is generally valid for up to 5 years. It cannot be valid longer than the passport used to apply, and it is a multiple-entry visa during its validity.

You may stay up to 90 days per entry, and your total time in Brazil cannot exceed 180 days within any 12-month period. A 90-day stay can normally be extended once for an equal period in Brazil through the Federal Police, subject to the 180-day annual limit.
