Review your information carefully

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an electronic entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. It is electronically linked to your passport rather than being a physical visa or stamp.
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport. U.S. citizens and U.S. lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders) do not need one, and travellers arriving by car, bus, train, or boat do not need an eTA.
An eTA is valid for up to five years from the date it is issued, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you must apply for a new eTA.
An eTA allows multiple entries during its validity period. You can travel to Canada as often as you want for short visits, normally for up to six months at a time.
Most applications are approved within minutes. However, some take longer, and you may be asked to submit additional documents, so it is best to apply well before you travel and not wait until the last minute.
Yes. If you are a visa-exempt foreign national connecting through a Canadian airport on the way to another country, you still need a valid eTA, even if you do not leave the airport.
No. An eTA is required only for air travel. If you arrive by land or sea, you do not need an eTA, although you must still carry acceptable travel documents.
No. An eTA is for short visits such as tourism, business meetings, visiting family, or transit. It does not authorize employment, and for studies longer than six months you generally need a study permit.
