• After you submit and pay, the application goes to the Vietnam Immigration Department for review, and standard processing is about 3 working days (officially), though in practice it often takes 3-5 working days and can be longer for some nationalities or during peak periods and holidays, so apply well before you travel (ideally at least two weeks ahead).
• You track progress on the official portal's search/result page by entering your registration code, your email address, and your date of birth (plus the captcha).
• A 'Processing' status means your application is still under review and no decision has been made yet.
• A 'Granted'/'Approved' status means your e-visa has been issued and you can view and download it (usually via a link or a green arrow) as a PDF.
• An 'Amended application' (amendment required) status means the authorities need you to correct or re-submit something - for example fixing name spelling/order or re-uploading a clearer photo or passport scan - and you should edit the application as instructed and resubmit.
• A 'Rejected' status means the visa authorities have declined the application; you do not receive the e-visa and would need to prepare corrected documents and submit a new application.
• The system communicates by email to the address you registered: it can send updates, verification or amendment requests, and an approval notification with the e-visa PDF once it is granted.
• Be aware that you may not always receive an email when something is wrong, so check your status directly on the official portal rather than waiting for a message.
• Once granted, download the e-visa PDF and print it (A4 or letter size, in colour or clear black-and-white) so all details and the QR code are legible - immigration expects a printed copy, and a phone screen alone should not be relied on.
• Before you travel, carefully check the printed e-visa so every detail (name, date of birth, passport number, nationality) exactly matches your passport, and confirm the entry/exit port matches your travel plan.
• Vietnam also requires a separate digital pre-arrival declaration through the official pre-arrival portal (prearrival.immigration.gov.vn) before you reach the border; it is free, can be completed up to three days before arrival, and generates a confirmation QR code to show immigration officers - this is now mandatory at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) and is being expanded to other airports, so complete it for any air arrival.
• Enter Vietnam only through one of the officially designated e-visa ports of entry; following the expansion in late 2025 there are now 83 approved checkpoints (17 international airports, 27 land border gates, and 39 seaports), and you must exit through a designated port as well.
• The entry port must match what is recorded on your approved e-visa; arriving at a different port than the one on your e-visa can result in denial of entry, so if your plans change, obtain a new e-visa with the correct port (on a multiple-entry e-visa only the first entry must be at the listed port, after which you may use any designated checkpoint).
• On arrival, present your valid passport together with the printed e-visa (and your pre-arrival/arrival QR code) to the immigration officer at the checkpoint.
• Be prepared for standard immigration checks at the counter, which can include capturing your photo and fingerprints/biometrics as part of border processing.
• Note any customs declaration obligations on arrival, such as declaring cash above the thresholds (foreign currency over US$5,000 or equivalent, or VND over 15,000,000).
• The immigration officer at the border makes the final decision on whether you are admitted - holding a granted e-visa lets you travel and seek entry but does not by itself guarantee admission.
• When you leave, exit through a designated port and ensure you depart on or before the e-visa expiry/exit date to avoid an overstay.

• A passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your intended entry date and has at least two blank pages.
• A clear digital scan or photograph of your passport data page, capturing the full page with all four corners visible, no glare, and all printed details legible.
• A recent passport-style portrait photo, in colour, facing the camera straight-on with a neutral expression (not smiling), no hat and no glasses, against a plain white background.
• Both the photo and the passport-page image should be in JPG or JPEG format, with each file under 2 MB; the recommended portrait size is 4 cm by 6 cm.
• Your intended date of entry into Vietnam and your planned date of exit.
• The international checkpoint (airport, land border gate or seaport) where you intend to enter and the one where you intend to exit, chosen from the approved e-Visa list.
• Your intended address or accommodation details in Vietnam.
• A valid email address to receive notifications and the application reference, plus an accepted online payment method for the fee.
• For a child under 14 included on a parent's passport, the child's full name, gender, date of birth and a portrait photo.
• Apply well ahead of travel, ideally at least one to two weeks before departure, since standard processing typically takes around three working days and can be longer during busy periods.

Details of the Vietnamese company or partner you are visiting. The e-Visa covers business meetings and negotiations; it does not grant the right to take up paid employment, which needs a work permit.

The Vietnam e-Visa is open to passport holders of all countries and territories who are outside Vietnam, hold a valid passport (ordinary, official or diplomatic) valid for at least six months with at least two blank pages, and are not subject to a suspension of entry under Vietnamese law.

The e-Visa is valid for up to 90 days from your chosen entry date. Your permitted stay is limited to the validity period you are granted, and you must leave on or before the expiry date to avoid overstay penalties.

Both options are available. You can choose a single-entry e-Visa for one trip, or a multiple-entry e-Visa that lets you enter and leave Vietnam multiple times within the validity period.

It is intended for lawful short-stay purposes such as tourism, visiting relatives, short business visits and transit. It does not authorise paid employment, study, long-term residence or other regulated activities.

As of December 2025 there are 83 approved international checkpoints for e-Visa holders, including major airports such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Cat Bi and Phu Quoc, key land border gates, and many seaports. You must enter and exit through a checkpoint on the approved list.

You can enter and exit through any checkpoint on the approved e-Visa list, but the personal details on an issued e-Visa cannot be edited; if any of your details are wrong you would need a new application.
